The I Am Become Death quest serves as the climatic finale to the main Enclave storyline in Fallout 76, granting players access to the ultimate power of launching nuclear missiles across Appalachia. Completing this endgame milestone opens up high-level fallout zones packed with rare resources and formidable mutated bosses. Understanding the specific objectives and preparation needed will make your journey into the missile silos far more manageable.
Prerequisites and Unlocking the Mission
Before initiating this quest, players must complete the Enclave questline and earn the rank of General inside the Whitespring Bunker. Once promoted, MODUS directs you to the Military Wing's Command Center to begin nuclear launch training. Interacting with the Surveillance System Terminal provides the necessary tools to track down launch components.
Preparing your character with adequate supplies is essential before stepping foot inside any missile silo. Equipping energy-resistant armor, radiation protection, and heavy firepower helps you survive against waves of high-level combat robots.
Gathering Keycards and Decrypting Launch Codes
The first major objective requires players to hunt down a cargobot escorted by Vertibots to secure a Nuclear Keycard. Shooting down the escort pod allows you to loot the keycard, which is a single-use item needed at the launch console. Carrying multiple keycards is recommended in case a code entry mistake occurs.
Next, players must collect eight launch code fragments from targeted Scorched or Ghoul officers carrying beeping radio packs. While you can manually decipher these code pieces using clues inside the Fujiniya Intelligence Base, players can also use trusted online community databases to obtain the active weekly launch codes directly.
Navigating and Infiltrating the Silos
Appalachia features three launch facilities: Silo Alpha, Silo Bravo, and Silo Charlie. Entering any of these bunkers initiates an intense gauntlet filled with defensive turrets, assaultrons, and automated security protocols. Utilizing hacking perks can help disable local turret networks and shortcut several security doors.
Inside the facility, you must complete security tasks such as creating a bio-metric ID card, repairing damaged mainframe cores, and fixing reactor leaks under a timer. Maintaining stealth or using high-damage explosive weapons can clear rooms faster to keep automated reinforcements from overwhelming your position.
Initiating the Launch Procedure
Reaching the command section triggers the final defense event where you must protect friendly launch control robots while they calibrate the system. If any control bots are destroyed during enemy counterattacks, replacement units can be manufactured at nearby terminals.
Once the prep progress reaches full completion, swipe your Nuclear Keycard into the left receptacle and enter the matching eight-digit passcode on the right keypad. Accessing the target computer allows you to select a detonation site across the map, completing the quest and unleashing a temporary endgame nuked zone.
